King Tut Museum at the Luxor Hotel and CasinoThe pharaohs of ancient Egypt were buried with magnificent artifacts because the Egyptians believed the dead will make use of them in the afterlife. Unfortunately, many of those artifacts were stolen by grave robbers throughout history. The tomb of King Tutankhamun is one of the few that managed to remain hidden away with its treasured untouched until its discovery by archeologist Howard Carter on November 22, 1922. The Egyptian themed Luxor Hotel and Casino opened its doors on an authentic replication of Tutankhamun's burial chambers. The artifacts in this Luxor Hotel museum were meticulously recreated by craftsmen using the same materials, tools, and techniques used by the ancient Egyptians 3,300 years ago. The rooms were built to the exact measurements of the original tomb and the artifacts placed according to records maintained by Carter's team. The museum holds hundreds of authentic reproductions, including statues, beds, vases, baskets and pottery. Most notable among those is King Tut's stunningly gold plated sarcophagus. The Egyptian theme of the Entire Luxor Hotel and Casino is very enjoyable, and if you're not planning a trip to Egypt any time soon, the Luxor and King Tut's Museum are the next best thing. Fifteen minute self guided audio tours are available in several languages at the museum. Location: 3900 Las Vegas Boulevard South (South Strip at the Luxor Hotel and Casino). Phone: (702)262-4000.
